Alaska Cabin Rentals
East PWS Coastal and Inland Cabins

Alaska Cabin Rentals in Chugach National Forest - Southcentral Region near Valdez and Cordova:

NOTE: Follow this link for these Forest Service cabin reservations, general information and for additional US Forest Service rental cabins.

East Side of Prince William Sound and Copper River Delta areas: A few Forest Service cabin rentals located east of Cordova can be accessed from the Copper River Highway.

This is the ONLY highway out of Cordova and goes east to the Copper River, then crosses it and follows it north, ending at the Million Dollar Bridge. The rest of the Alaska cabin rentals must be reached by boat or plane.

Because these are mostly on islands and very remote areas, most will not have a means of trash disposal. To keep these Alaska cabin rentals clean and make it easy on yourself, remove any unnecessary packaging when you are packing, because whatever you take in, you'll have to take back out when you leave, unless you can burn it.

  • Double Bay Cabin - is 12' x 14' (3.66m x 4.27m). Sleeps 6 and has table, wood stove, oil stove, splitting maul, saw, rainwater, outhouse. Located (GPS +60° 27' 59.00", -146° 26' 17.00" ) on east side of Double Bay on Hinchinbrook Island. Hinchinbrook is the other large island, northeast of Montague Island, that separates Prince William Sound from the ocean.

Reachable by float plane or boat from Cordova at high tide. The shallow bay makes the approach to cabin by boat or plane difficult at low tide. Fishing in season and an inflatable raft will make it easier. Use Alaska Tide Table: Johnstone Point on Hinchinbrook Island.

  • Hook Point Cabin - is 16' x 16' (4.88m x 4.88m). Sleeps 6 and has table, loft, oil stove, wood stove, outhouse and rainwater barrel. Located (GPS +60° 20' 53.00", -146° 17' 46.00") 1.5 miles (2.41km) west of Hook Point on a sandy beach, on the ocean side of Hinchinbrook Island. Reachable by plane landing on beach at low tide, from Cordova (only 25 air miles or 40.23km away). Cabin is 1/4 mile (0.4km) away from landing area. Fishing or clamming is fair but not great.
  • Shelter Bay Cabin - is 12' x 12' (3.66m x 3.66m). Sleeps 6 and has table, wood stove, oil stove, splitting maul, saw, rainwater barrel and outhouse. Located (GPS +60° 25' 37.00", -146° 39' 43.00") on the southwest shore of Shelter Bay on the side of Hinchinbrook Island facing Prince William Sound.

Reachable by float plane at high tide. At low tide, there is a landing strip located 350 yards north of the cabin which can be used. Boat access may be limited by local conditions. May only be accessible June through August. Check with local Ranger Station at 907-424-7661. Fishing available for Dolly Varden, cutthroat trout, pink and chum salmon from July to mid-August and silver salmon after that. Take the Copper River Highway to Mile 17, then south for 3 miles on the Alaganik Road. From the boat ramp go 7 miles west on Alaganik Slough to Tiedeman Slough, then 1/4 mile north on this slough to the cabin. Located (GPS +60° 25' 12.68", -145° 28' 17.00") on the east bank, the cabin may be difficult to reach at low tide. Reachable by float plane from Cordova, at high tide. Silver salmon fishing is in late August and September, and hunting in season for brown bears, black bears and waterfowl.
  • See McKinley Lake Cabin.
  • Softuk Bar Cabin - is 12' x 14' (3.66m x 4.27m). Sleeps 6 and has table, wood stove, oil stove, splitting maul, saw, rainwater barrel and outhouse. No trash disposal here, so you have to take it with you. Located (GPS +60° 12' 15.00", -144° 38' 26.00") about 45 miles (72.42km) southeast of Cordova on a wide, sandy beach, facing the ocean. Reachable by plane landing on sand bar at low tide only. An old townsite named Katalla is located 4 miles east of the cabin. Katalla is where the first oil wells were drilled in Alaska in the early 1900s. There's not much left to see there, but if you want to hike over to it, go at low tide. At high tide there's a rocky point that's difficult to cross. Silver, pink salmon and razor clams are in the area, as well as bears fishing for them. Get Alaska USGS map: Cordova A-2, Alaska Tide Table: Wingham Island, Controller Bay in the Gulf of Alaska.
  • The above is a partial list of Alaska cabin rentals through the Alaska forest service. Find more vacation cabin rentals at State Park cabins. Other public Alaska cabin rentals will be added. In the meantime, I hope you find a place to stay but if not, we will soon add some privately-owned Alaska cabin rentals, also.
