For Every Great Kenai Fishing Spot!

Alaska campgrounds on the Sterling Highway - from junction of Seward Highway with Sterling Highway to HOMER on the west side of the Kenai Peninsula. THE best places in Alaska to go salmon fishing.

NOTE: USFS Campgrounds generally need reservations. They are often booked well in advance for the Kenai Peninsula, so reserve them as soon as you know your travel dates. Local contact at: Seward District - 907-224-3374

Alaska Campgrounds at the Start of the Sterling Highway:

  • Quartz Creek USFS Campgrounds - has 45 paved campsites (11 pull-throughs) with NO size limit on RVs. FEE - $18/night for a single site or $28/night for a double, with 14 night limit. Has picnic sites, water, latrines, dump station and boat launch. Kenai Lake access for great fishing opportunities. Located 8 miles (12.87km) from junction with Seward Highway. Take Quartz Creek Road 0.4 miles (0.64m) to campground.
  • Cooper Creek USFS Campgrounds - has 26 campsites (3 are tent sites) with 45' (13.72m) RV size limit. Has picnic sites, water, latrines and fishing in nearby Kenai River. FEE - $18/night for a single site or $28/night for a double, with 14 night limit. A forested campground, located 101.4 miles (163.19km) south of Anchorage at Milepost 50.7 Sterling Highway OR 13.6 miles or 13.7 miles (22.05km) (North and South entrances) from junction with Seward Highway.
  • Russian River USFS CG - has 83 paved campsites (9 pull-throughs) with HOOK-UPS and NO size limit on RVs. FEE - $18/night for a single site or $28/night for a double, with 14 night limit. Has picnic sites, water, latrines and dump station. Located 15.5 miles (24.95km) from junction with Seward Highway, milepost 52.6 Sterling Highway, 1.1 miles (1.77km) to campground.
  • Kenai-Russian River USFWS Campgrounds - Has 180 campsites NO size limit on RVs. Has water, latrines and boat ramp. FEE - $8 to $10/night with a 3 night limit. Milepost 55, Sterling Highway.
  • For the next FIVE Alaska campgrounds, take Skilak Lake Road from the Sterling Highway, which is 21.25 miles (34.2km) from Seward Highway junction. All have boat ramps and great fishing!

  • Hidden Lake USFWS Campgrouds - has 44 campsites, some with NO size limit on RVs. Has water, latrines, boat ramp and dump station. FEE - $8 to $10/night with a 7 night limit. Mile 4, Skilak Lake Road.
  • Lower Ohmer Lake USFWS Campgrounds - has 3 campsites with RV size limit of 21' (6.4m). NO FEE with 14 night limit. Has latrines and boat ramp. Mile 8, Skilak Lake Road.
  • Upper Skilak Lake USFWS Campgrounds - has 25 campsites, with RV size limit of 35' (10.67m). FEE - $8 to $10/night with a 7 night limit. Has water, latrines, boat ramp and dump station. Mile 9, Skilak Lake Road.
  • Engineer Lake USFWS Campgrounds - has 8 campsites with RV size limit of 21' (6.4m). NO FEE with 14 night limit. Has water, latrines and boat ramp. Mile 9.5, Skilak Lake Road.
  • Lower Skilak Lake USFWS Campgrounds - has 14 campsites, with RV size limit of of 21' (6.4m). FEE - $8 to $10/night with a 14 night limit. Has water, latrines and boat ramp. Mile 15, Skilak Lake Road.
  • Alaska Campgrounds on the Sterling Highway, past Skilak Lake Road:

  • Kelly Lake USFWS Campgrounds - has 3 campsites, some with NO size limit on RVs. NO FEE with 14 night limit. Has water, latrines and boat ramp. Milepost 68.5, Sterling Highway.
  • Petersen Lake USFWS Campgrounds - has 3 campsites, some with NO size limit on RVs. NO FEE with 14 night limit. Has water, latrines and boat ramp. Milepost 68.5, Sterling Highway.
  • Watson Lake USFWS Campgrounds - has 3 campsites, some with NO size limit on RVs. NO FEE with 14 night limit. Has latrines and boat ramp. Milepost 70.8, Sterling Highway.
  • Bings Landing State Campgrounds - has 36 campsites, with NO size limit on RVs. FEE - $10/night with a 7 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic sites on campsites, shelter, water, latrines and trails. Boat launch FEE - $10. From milepost 79, Sterling Highway, take Bings Landing Road to the end.
  • Morgan's Landing State Campgrounds - has 41 campsites, with NO size limit on RVs. FEE - $10/night with a 7 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic sites on campsites, water, latrines and trails. From Mileposts 80 or 88, Sterling Highway, take Lou Morgan Road.
  • Izaak Walton State Campgrounds - has 31 campsites, with NO size limit on RVs. FEE - $10/night with a 7 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic sites on campsites, water and latrines. Boat launch FEE - $10. Milepost 81, Sterling Highway.
  • For the next THREE Alaska campgrounds, take Swanson River Road, from Sterling Highway.

  • Dolly Varden Lake USFWS Campgrounds - has 10 campsites, with RV size limit of of 21' (6.4m). NO FEE with 14 night limit. Has water, latrines and boat ramp. Mile 15, Swanson River Road.
  • Rainbow Lake USFWS Campgrounds - has 3 campsites, with RV size limit of 35' (10.67m). NO FEE with 14 night limit. Has water, latrines and boat ramp. Mile 16, Swanson River Road.
  • Swanson River USFWS Campgrounds - has 4 campsites, with RV size limit of 35' (10.67m). NO FEE with 14 night limit. Has latrines and boat ramp. Mile 18, Swanson River Road.
  • Alaska campgrounds on the Sterling Highway, past Swanson River Road:

  • Funny River State Campgrounds - has 10 campsites with a 40' (12.19m) RV size limit. FEE - $10/night with a 7 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic sites on campsites, shelters, water and latrines. Milepost 85, Sterling Highway.
  • Discovery State Campgrounds - has 53 campsites with NO size limit on RVs. FEE - $10/night with a 14 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic sites, shelters, water, latrines and trails. This Alaska campground is on a beach at Milepost 36, North Kenai Road, from Kenai Spur Highway, from Milepost 94 Sterling Highway. Operated by concessionaire, Alaska Recreation Management - 907-522-8368 or 907-748-2553.
  • Alaska campgrounds past Kenai-Soldotna area:

  • Kasilof River State Campgrounds - has 25 campsites, DAY use only. FEE - $5/day parking with a 15 day limit. Has water and latrines. Boat launch FEE - $5. Located in Kasilof River SRS at milepost 109.5, Sterling Highway.
  • Johnson Lake State Campgrounds - has 51 campsites, with RV size limit of 35' (10.67m). FEE - $10/night with a 15 day limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic sites, shelter, water, latrines, and boat launch. At milepost 110, Sterling Highway, take Johnson Lake Loop Road to Crooked Creek Road.
  • Crooked Creek State Campgrounds - has 24 campsites, with RV size limit of 35' (10.67m). FEE - $10/night with a 7 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has water, latrines, and boat launch. From Sterling Highway, take North Cohoe Loop Road.
  • The next four Alaska campgrounds are in the best razor clam digging area in Alaska.

  • Clam Gulch State Campgrounds - has 120 campsites, with RV size limit of 35' (10.67m). FEE - $10/night with a 15 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic shelters, water and latrines. As the name suggests, its a clamming beach. At milepost 117 Sterling Highway, take Clam Gulch Road.
  • Ninilchik River State Campgrounds - has 39 campsites, with RV size limit of 35' (10.67m). FEE - $10/night with a 15 day limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic sites, shelter, water and latrines. At milepost 134.5, Sterling Highway.
  • Ninilchik Beach State Campgrounds - has 25 campsites for campers ONLY. FEE - $10/night with a 15 day limit. Has water, latrines and boat launch. Milepost 135.5 Sterling Highway.
  • Ninilchik View State Campgrounds - has 13 campsites, with RV size limit of 35' (10.67m). FEE - $10/night with a 7 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has water and latrines. Dump station FEE - $5. Located on a bluff overlooking Cook Inlet and has wooden stairway to the beach. This Alaska campground gives you some great views as well as beach access for clamming. Milepost 135.7 Sterling Highway.

  • Deep Creek State Campgrounds - has 100 campsites, with RV size limit of 35' (10.67m). FEE - $10/night with a 15 day limit OR $5/day parking. Has water and latrines. Boat launch FEE - $5. ATV riding and clamming on the beach. Milepost 136, Sterling Highway.
  • Stariski State Campgrounds - has 13 campsites, with RV size limit of 35' (10.67m). FEE - $10/night with a 14 night limit. Has picnic sites, shelter, water and latrines. Dump station FEE - $5. NO fishing here but is located on a bluff overlooking Cook Inlet and is somewhat secluded. Milepost 152 Sterling Highway.
  • Alaska Campgrounds in the Anchor River State Recreation Area, from Milepost 157, Sterling Highway. All are operated by concessionaire, Alaska Recreation Management - 907-522-8368 or 907-748-2553.

  • Halibut Campgrounds - has 30 campsites, with NO size limit on RVs. FEE - $10/night with a 14 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic areas on campsites, water and latrines. On Anchor River Road.
  • Cohoe Campground - has 36 campsites for campers ONLY. FEE - $10/night with a 14 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic areas on campsites, water and latrines. On Anchor River Road.
  • Silverking Campground - has 46 campsites for campers ONLY. FEE - $10/night with a 14 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic areas on campsites, water and latrines.
  • Slidehole Campground - 30 campsites with NO size limit on RVs. FEE - $10/night with a 7 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic sites, shelters, water and latrines.
  • Steelhead Campground - has 44 campsites for campers ONLY. FEE - $10/night with a 14 night limit OR $5/day parking. Has picnic shelters and latrines.
  • Now we'll leave the Kenai Peninsula and go back north of Anchorage, to find Alaska campgrounds on the Parks Highway from Wasilla to Fairbanks...
