Fishing Vacation spots along the Sterling Highway, starting from it's junction with the Seward Highway, on the Kenai Peninsula.

Kenai River Has major runs of King, Red, Silver and Pink Salmon. The Kings often weigh well over 50 pounds! You'll also find trophy-sized Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden. That makes it quite popular with Alaska wildlife as well as fishermen. The river starts at Kenai Lake (Cooper Landing - Mile 48.4 Sterling Highway) and follows the Sterling Highway, going inland to Skilak Lake. Then it returns to the Highway and exits into Cook Inlet, at the town of Kenai (of course!) on the west coast of the Peninsula. It is accessible in numerous locations along the way. Many people consider the Kenai River to be the best place for an Alaska fishing vacation.

Quartz Creek - Good Dolly Varden fishing. Turn onto Quartz Creek Road at Mile 45, south side of Sterling Highway and travel 3 miles to USFS CG.

Crescent Creek and Crescent Lake - Has trophy-size Arctic Grayling. Take Quartz Creek Road (as above) to Crescent Creek CG or past campgrounds to reach the Crescent Creek Trailhead. The trail is about 6.5 miles (10.46km) long. It goes completely around Crescent Lake, ending up at Carter Lake. Crescent Creek and Crescent Saddle USFS cabin rentals nearby. An off the beaten path Alaska fishing vacation lake.

Cooper Creek and Kenai River Access - Salmon fishing in Kenai River from Cooper Creek CG. At Mile 50.7 Sterling Highway.

Alaska Fishing Vacations along the North Resurrection Trail, going north from the Sterling highway:

Trout Lake - Has Rainbow Trout and Whitefish. Juneau Creek has Dolly Varden, Rainbow Trout, and Arctic Grayling. USFS cabin rental available. It is 7 miles (11.27km) north of trailhead at Mile 52 Sterling Highway, west of trail.

Juneau Lake - Has Rainbow Trout, Whitefish, Burbot and Arctic Grayling. Two USFS cabin rentals near lake. Lake is 9.5 miles (15.29km) from trailhead at Mile 52 Sterling Highway, west of trail. Remote location. Fly-in or hike.

Swan Lake - Has good Trout fishing. Boat provided with each of two USFS cabin rentals. Remote location with no maintained trail. Fly-in or hike. Is a few miles north of Juneau Lake (above), west of trail.

Alaska Fishing Vacations south of the Sterling Highway:

Russian River, Upper and Lower Russian Lakes - Has Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout. Red Salmon are plentiful mid-June to mid-July. No fishing allowed upstream of Russian River Falls. Enter CG at Mile 52.6 Sterling Highway. Travel 1 mile past campgrounds to parking and Russian River Trailhead. Or start at Mile 48 Sterling Highway, follow Snug Harbor Road 9 miles (14.48km), then Cooper Lake Road 3 miles (4.83km) to parking. Russian Lake Trail goes west from here, directly to the lake. It's a shorter hiking distance. Aspen Flats river cabin rental is close by. And one of the lake cabins for rent is at Upper Russian Lake.
