Alaska Highway Map
A Picture of Each Major Highway

An Alaska highway map is listed for each of the major highways. Each map has a number of points marked to give you a little more information about what is along the highway.

I've also provided links to take you to pages that have information you might want to coordinate with the map. The pages will open in a separate window so you can look at both the map and page information.

Looking for a printed map? Take a look at this high quality, durable, folding Alaska FlexiMap of Alaska's highways.

For online maps: Zoom in on each map to get a more detailed view. Left click on each bubble marker to read the notes that will identify the marked point and give you some additional information on it. Besides familiarization with names and places, it will be easier to understand directions given on the various pages of this website.

ALASKA HIGHWAY MAP #1: Find campgrounds, State cabin rentals and State recreation areas.

Alcan Highway - Officially starts at Dawson Creek in British Columbia, Canada. It ends at Delta Junction in Alaska where it meets the old Richardson Highway. The portion from the Alaska-Canadian border to Delta Junction is also called the Alaska Highway. 1,390 miles (2237km) long.

ALASKA HIGHWAY MAP #2: Find campgrounds, State cabin rentals and State recreation areas.

Richardson Highway - From the Port of Valdez to Fairbanks. This road was built in the early 1900s and was the only road into the interior of Alaska. The road would never have been built if gold miners hadn't been trying to climb over these mountains for years, trying to get to the gold fields. 366 miles (589km) long.

ALASKA HIGHWAY MAP #3: Find campgrounds, State cabin rentals and State recreation areas.

Tok Cut-off and Glenn Highway - Starting at Tok Junction on the Alaska Highway, this highway heads southwest and ends at Anchorage. The Cut-off road was built in the early 50's because a shorter route was needed to get to Valdez or Anchorage. Originally, you had to drive all the way to Delta Junction to reach the Richardson Highway, then go back south to Valdez or to connect with the Glenn Highway. 328 miles (527.87km) long.

ALASKA HIGHWAY MAP #4: Find campgrounds, State cabin rentals and State recreation areas.

George Parks Highway - or Parks Highway for short, was completed in 1971. The most recent major highway built in Alaska. It's 323 mile lenth is the first straight route we've had between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Of course, it follows the Alaska Railroad tracks which have been there since the 1920's and earlier. 362 miles (582.58km) long.

Nenana, that little town near the junction of the Tanana and Nenana Rivers, is the location of the famous railroad bridge which was completed in 1924. President Harding actually came to Nenana and drove the golden spike in the tracks that connected the southern and northern tracks with the railroad bridge. Named the Mears Memorial Bridge, it is 700 feet long and is famous for being the 3rd longest single truss bridge in the world.

These are Alaska's main connecting highways. No, there isn't much there yet. But we like it that way. It will grow soon enough, especially because they keep building more roads.

But that isn't all of the highways in Alaska. I'll show you another Alaska Highway or two, just follow me to the next page for more highway maps...
