Alaskan Airlines
For Flights Within Alaska

Alaskan airlines fly between all major Alaskan cities as well as to most of its smaller towns and villages. That's because it is the only modern method of transportation for much of Alaska's outlying areas.



A large part of the State still has no connecting roads, so boats in summer and dog sleds and snowmachines in winter, are other transport options. The Alaska train has a very limited roll in Alaska's transportation but still is very important to many along its route.

NOTE: This page about Alaskan airlines covers flights WITHIN Alaska only. You can also find flights to Alaska with additional information on them, for your travel planning.

Below I have divided up the information on Alaskan airlines as follows, so it is easy to use:

Section A - I have listed the passenger airline carriers that operate within Alaska on regular scheduled flights. Also mentioned are cargo flights, charters and tours.

Section B - I have listed the cities and villages of Alaska that have regular scheduled flights and named some of the Alaskan airlines that go to them.

Section A - Alaskan airline carriers with scheduled flights between cities in Alaska:

  • Alaska/Horizon Airlines - Probably has more flights to major and minor destinations in Alaska than any other airline. WEBSITE: www.alaskaair.com.
  • Alaska Central Express (Cargo Only) - Will transport just about anything you want transported, and now has connecting flights to the rest of the US. You big game hunters, take heed!   • Empire Airlines (Cargo Only) - Operates from Anchorage International Airport. Company based in Idaho - WEBSITE: http://www.empireairlines.com/index.asp?pageid=976
  • Everts - Operates out of Fairbanks. Has scheduled cargo service to 19 Alaskan villages. Also offers passenger charters for up to 30 people. A truly Alaskan Company.
  • Forty-mile Air (40-mile Air) - Operates from Tok. Charters for big game hunters. Flies to Fairbanks and any remote location in eastern Alaska. WEBSITE: www.fortymileair.com - CONTACT: 907-883-5191
  • Grant Aviation - Operates out of Anchorage with flights to the Kenai Peninsula and western Alaska. Flies to over 100 Alaskan villages. Another Alaskan company that has very customer service-oriented policies. WEBSITE: www.flygrant.com/index.html - CONTACT: 888-Fly-Grant (888-359-4726)
  • PenAir (Peninsula Airways) Operates from Anchorage. Flies to many destinations in southwestern Alaska and the Aleutian Chain. A partner with Alaska Airlines. Also carries cargo. WEBSITE: www.penair.com - CONTACT: 907-771-2640 OR 800-448-4226

    Section B - Alaskan cities that have regular scheduled flights and the Alaskan airline carriers that service them. I have divided this section into arbitrary regions of the State, just for convenience. NOTE: Many more villages are serviced than are listed here. These are just a sampling and are usually the first destinations from either Anchorage or Fairbanks.

  • Northeastern Region - Covers towns that are as far north as Fairbanks all the way to the North Slope, and roughly from the middle of the State to the Canadian Border.
