A River Cabin Rental
For Fun Pastimes

A river cabin rental in the backwoods of Alaska is a place where you can have a lot of fun!

Almost every river, stream or creek in Alaska has some good fishing. You'll find many good kids fishing spots in them, if you have children. Also, some river cabin rentals are located on streams that are open for recreational gold panning.

Because Alaska's rivers and streams are extremely cold and the weather is on the cool side in general, ensure you bring lots of warm clothing with you. If you get very wet, you might want to change to some dry clothes. But the cold water in a clear Alaskan stream is really great for drinking and has a delicious taste. You'll find it better than any water from a tap!

My Creek Water Story:

Personally, I grew up drinking water from Alaska's creeks and springs, and we didn't even filter the water. Mom and Dad always said the water in these creeks was being filtered and cleaned by the rocks on the stream beds. They thought the water purified itself about every 15 to 20 feet. I don't know if that's true or not, but none of us ever got sick from drinking it, and as I said, it is the most delicious water I have ever tasted.

Now, if the stream is full of dying salmon, which happens in streams where they have been spawning, you definitely wouldn't want to drink that water. It stinks terribly! That happened when we were living in a log cabin - our river cabin rental! - south of Moose Pass. Ptarmigan Creek was full of spawning salmon in the fall and we had to drive to a mountain spring to get clean drinking water.
